HOUSTON, TX (FOX19) - In one of their biggest tests of the season on the road, No. 25 UC didn’t score a single point in the final six minutes of the game in a 65-58 loss to No. 12 Houston.
Jarron Cumberland, who finished with a game-high 27 points, gave the Bearcats a 58-57 lead after hitting a three-pointer with six minutes and 11 seconds left in regulation.
“We couldn’t score,” Mick Cronin said on 700 WLW talking about the scoring drought in the final minutes. “The difference in the game is that we got the ball to the rim nine times and came up empty. They had nine blocked shots. You can sit there and blame the officials. That isn’t going to help us get any better. I blame us as coaches."
Houston (23-1, 10-1 AAC) finished the game on a 8-0 run while UC missed 11 straight shots at the end of the game. The Cougars have won 32 consecutive games on their home court.
The Bearcats (20-4, 9-2 AAC) return home to host Wichita State on Sunday, Feb. 17 at 1 p.m.
