68-year-old says she was attacked, robbed outside her Norwood home

Man attacks, robs 68-year-old woman outside her home

NORWOOD, OH (FOX19) - Norwood police are searching for a man accused of assaulting a woman Sunday night.

It happened in the 5000 block of Mills Avenue around 6 p.m.

While watching the Bearcats game Sunday, a woman named Janet decided to step out and have a smoke. That’s when she says a man approached her asking to use her cellphone. Janet didn’t want to show her face on camera or release her last name.

Janet says he grabbed the phone from her and pushed her down before getting away with the phone and $30.

“He pushed me down, called me grandma, kicked me in the stomach and rolled me,” she said.

She says she was scared to death.

“You can’t even step out of your door,” Janet said.

Norwood Police Lt. Ron Murphy says this type of crime is unusual for Norwood.

“It’s not something that occurs in Norwood -- very, very rarely. It’s a safe community so I was a little shocked to hear that she was outside her apartment and a robbery occurred,” he said.

Since it happened Janet says she hasn’t left her home, but as soon as her nerves calm she’ll go back outside.

“I will not be afraid to get some air. I have mace and I will take it with me," she said.

Janet says she did cancel her phone plan.
