CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The Cincinnati Bengals have hired a defense coordinator.

Lou Anarumo, 52, served as the N.Y. Giants’ defense backs coach in 2018, and served in the same role for the Miami Dolphins from 2012 until 2017.

“I’ve always had great respect for Lou, and I know he is a tremendous defensive coach,” said Bengals head coach Zac Taylor. “He’s a great fit for what we want to build here in Cincinnati. Lou is an excellent communicator who the players will have great respect for, and he will get the best out of them.”

According to the team, Anarumo served as the Dolphins’ interim defense coordinator for the final 12 games of 2015 as a result of in-season staff changes.

Anarumo coached at the collegiate level from 1992 to 2011, the team says, with an assistant head coaching role at Harvard University and defensive backs stint with Marshall and Purdue.

The Bengals fired defensive coordinator Teryl Austin midway through this past season. Head coach Marvin Lewis also left the team after the season, and Zac Taylor was hired as his replacement from the Rams staff.
