UPDATE Firefighter accused of trying to kill wife asked to resign

Posted: Updated:

INDEPENDENCE, KY (FOX19) - An Independence firefighter is in the Kenton County Jail, accused of trying to kill his wife.

Richard Noah, 38, was arrested early Monday morning.

The fire chief says Noah told his shift captain he planned to resign and start another career. On Thursday, the fire department went to Noah's jail cell and demanded, then accepted his resignation.

Police say Noah used a bed pillow and another household device to try and smother his wife during a domestic dispute at their Forest Run Drive home.

"We did locate a piece of plastic, which I would refer to in a generic term as cellophane wrapping, that allegedly was used in an attempt to suffocate her," said Independence assistant police chief David Nichols.

Noah's wife, Tiffany, escaped and called 911. She is expected to be okay.

Richard Noah faces one count of attempted murder. He is being held on a $200,000 bond.
