FT THOMAS, KY (FOX19) - Four teenagers were involved in an accident Tuesday afternoon near the intersection of US 27 and Bonnie Lane in Fort Thomas.

Police tell FOX19 that the convertible they were riding in came down a hill at a high rate of speed and attempted to make a turn onto a subdivision street.  The car missed the turn and ran up a guy wire, which caused the car to flip.

Two people were out of the vehicle when police arrived and two others were trapped.

The driver of the vehicle, Corey Baumer, was the most seriously hurt. He suffered a head injury, but should be OK. His passengers, sisters Taylor and Bilinda Benton, and Colin Burke, all suffered minor injuries.

Burke said it could have been worse if the teens had not been wearing seat belts.

"We always buckle up," said Burke. "It's not that we're square or super preachy about safety, it's simply that it saves lives. We've seen it save lives. Nothing makes you realize just how short and fragile you are until you see your friend pinned underneath a 2000 pound vehicle."

All of the teens are students at Highlands High School.

Police are investigating the crash, but say speed could have been a factor.
