MT WASHINGTON (FOX19) - The Hazmat team and fire crews removed 50 kegs of black powder from a home on Wednesday afternoon.

The kegs were found in a foreclosed home located in the 5500 block of Wasigo Drive. Bank inspectors were looking at the home when they found the powder and alerted authorities.

The kegs contained an unstable powder known as pyrodex, which is used in Civil War reenactments.

Officials say they do not know how long the powder has been there or how the powder got into the home.

No one was injured in this incident. A few of the residents were asked to evacuate the area for a short time.

Residents in the Woodsdale area may have heard several loud explosions Wednesday night as crews worked to destroy the powder.
