UNION TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - The Union Township Police Department, Clermont County Sheriff's Office and Clermont County Drug Task Force have announced what could be the county's largest drug bust ever.

Officers began service 55 suspects with arrest warrents on Thursday morning. A total of 203 felony indictments were returned as part of operation "Habit Breaker."

Additionally, 12 other suspects had been previously indicted or charged as part of this operation.

Investigators say most of the drugs involved black tar heroin, and also included marijuana, cocaine and prescription drugs. In all, police recovered around $637,000 worth of drugs and contrabands.

Officials say reports of heroin use and arrests for heroin use have increased since early 2008, which prompted the bust. In all, the bust resulted in the seizure of over 1800 grams of heroin.

"In the early stages of the investigation, investigators noted links or a relationship between some of the suspects and potential targets which expanded the investigation in an attempt to look at all possible suspected traffickers," said Chief Deputy Rick W. Combs.

Investigators say many of the suspects have direct connections to and are supplied by a Mexican drug cartel.

"The public must remain involved in the fight against illegal drugs because these defendants and their illegal drugs sales are supported by proceeds from thefts, burglaries and robberies," said Chief Terrence Zinser of Union Township. "We must realize that this single cooperative effort will not eradicate the presence of heroin in our community."
