FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - The Public Service Commission is predicting that many Kentuckians will see smaller heating bills this winter because of "sharply lower wholesale natural gas prices."
PSC Chairman David Armstrong said natural gas prices have fallen by half since last winter and should remain relatively stable for several years to come. That's largely because the ailing economy has reduced the demand.
The PSC reported wholesale prices are at their lowest levels in at least six years while the amount of natural gas in storage is at historically high levels. About 44 percent of Kentuckians heat their homes with natural gas.
Armstrong said the 39 percent of Kentuckians who use electric heat are expected to see relatively little change in their energy bills this winter.
