The last standing eminent domain home before it was torn down on FridayNORWOOD, Ohio (AP) - The final home has been torn down from a property rights battle that went on for years in Norwood.
The boarded-up, three-story house was demolished Friday in Norwood, where some homeowners had tried to stand firm against developers who wanted to replace their neighborhood with a $125 million complex of offices, shops and condominiums.
The residents went to court when the developers and the city threatened to seize their homes if they wouldn't sell. The Ohio Supreme Court ruled in their favor in 2006, but the remaining residents ended up selling anyway.
The last house standing had been owned by the last holdout, who got $1.25 million for his property last year.
Meanwhile, the recession has had the developers rethinking their plans.
