LAWRENCEBURG, IN (FOX19) - Hazmat crews were on the scene of a chemical spill that occurred early Monday morning in a Lawrenceburg plant.

Less than 200 gallons of Ferric Chloride spilled into a concrete vault or sump. the chemical was contained on site, and did not spill outside the gas plant.

Mike Brian, State Corporate Communications Manager for Indiana Michigan Power says that emergency crews were called at 2:30am.

"All the chemicals went into the concrete vault sump, and was held there until it was able to be processed," said Brian.

A second incident happened over the weekend at the plant.  Between four and six gallons of hypochlorite slowly leaked out. Also, being caught in the sump vault.

Brian says that's the reason crews were called out to the plant.

"Both of them together, caused a concern even though they were all captured and contained. We still wanted to deal with it obviously and did," says Brian.

The chemicals were contained only to the plant and never leaked out into the public

There are no reports of injuries and the hose is now repaired.
