CINCINNATI (FOX19) – Matthew 25 Ministries held a candlelight prayer vigil for victims of the catastrophic Haitian earthquake on Sunday.

"We should do what we can to help, whatever that is," said Marcia Spaeth, who attended the vigil.

"It's so sad that a tragedy like this has to bring us together," added Mary Solomon, a woman praying for Haiti.

Solomon, of Jamaica, is one of the many who came to Matthew 25 Ministries for a candlelight prayer vigil for victims of the catastrophic earthquake.

Those in attendance say they needed to sing and pray together in one voice, a voice of hope.

"We're collecting all kinds of water, soap but that is just not enough, I believe in the power of prayer and I believe if we get together and say a prayer for these folks it might help a little," said Spaeth.

For days now, the Matthew 25 Ministries warehouse in Blue Ash has overflowed with assistance for the earthquake-ravaged country, something its founder says is thanks to the Tri-State.

"We might differ politically or religiously but we can all agree that when there is a sick child, we can put those differences aside and help that child so we invite different faiths, different communities to come and make a united effort saying that human beings are important," said Wendell Mettey, founder and CEO of Matthew 25.

Matthew 25 Ministries welcomes volunteers six days a week at their Blue Ash facility.  Matthew 25 also welcomes cash and in-kind donations from individuals and businesses.  More than 99 percent of Matthew 25 Ministries' cash and in-kind donations go toward programs.

Matthew 25 Ministries was named by Forbes.com as one of the most efficient large US charities in 2008.  It holds a 4-Star Rating from Charity Navigator and meets the Better Business Bureau's Standards for Charitable Accountability.
