An inside look at diaper service "Good Natured Baby"

CINCINNATI (FOX19) – Being a new parent means you have your work cut out for you, midnight feedings, daily baths and constant diaper changes.

Having a baby is a wonderful blessing but changing a diaper, like a two pounder, isn't exactly blissful.

FOX 19's Dan Wells has a look now at one of the "dirtiest jobs" around the Tri-state, a diaper service.

Have you ever pretended "not" to smell a stinky diaper, so your spouse would get stuck with it? Well, there is an option to get that stinker out of the garbage can.

"Good Natured Baby" is greater Cincinnati and Dayton's only cloth diaper service. They clean the poop, so you don't have to.

"We were looking for a diaper service and couldn't find one," says Amy Hruschak.

Amy and PJ. Hruschak started what some would say was a pretty dirty job back in 2006.

"There are a lot of getting the diapers, cleaning the diapers and running routes," says PJ Hruschak.

"When we first started out we were doing the routes and that is really the dirties part of the job, you're going and picking up the diapers and the you're driving around in the van all day...it's something you sort of get used to," says Amy Hruschak.

Yes, the pick-up end a dirty diaper business is not all that glamorous.

At Greene Inc. in Xenia these folks process two million pound of laundry per year, yup, this is where all those dirty diapers go to be cleaned.

"It's nothing like residential laundry," says Deborah Capuano of Greene Inc.

Greene Inc. is a major provider of laundry services in Southwestern Ohio.

It's not only state-of-the-art; it's also a not-for-profit corporation, specializing in vocational training, employment, and social services for individuals with disabilities.

"We want anything that's coming from these babies, any illness that they have; we have to make sure that we wipe that out during the washing process," says Amy Hruschak.

Basically, diapers are washed using multiple changes of very hot water, using anti-bacterial detergents and bleach, then they're dried with air so hot, they're actually sterilized.

"Everything that is processed here is considered contaminated...it's a bio hazard...and you can't run an organization like this if you don't have world class safety," says Capuano.

After that it's on to folding and organizing, and then the clean diapers are back on the truck to customers.

"If you use our service for the entire time your child is in diapers it a little over two thousand dollars, if they're in disposable it's about six thousand dollars now that varies depending on the brand you use but we are going the middle of the road," says Amy Hruschak.

Good Natured Baby diaper service can come to your door once or twice a week.
