CINCINNATI (FOX 19) -- Fall sports practice starts before you know it. Is your athlete ready? Cincinnati Sports Medicine has a program called Sportsmetrics that helps condition athletes for the season.
Sportsmetrics is targeted for female athletes and preventing knee injuries. Female athletes are four to 10 times more likely to suffer an ACL injury than men. Stephanie Smith, who has spent four years training teens, says the program works to train athletes how to react when their knees are put in compromising positions.
For example, volleyball players will do jumps and do strength and conditioning to work their thighs and tone their upper leg muscles. Many knee injuries can be prevented by practicing motions, conditioning to fight fatigue and weight-lifting to build muscle.
