Nats win, Reds to face Giants in playoffs

The Washington Nationals defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday afternoon, meaning the Nats have clinched the top spot in the National League playoffs.

The Nationals will play the winner of the wild card game between Atlanta and St. Louis, and the Reds will play the Giants in the NLDS.

Going into Wednesday, the Reds and Nationals were tied for the best record in the league. Since the Nationals won more head-to-head games against the Reds this season, they win the top seed in the case of a tie.

The NLDS schedule is as follows:

  • Game 1, Saturday, Oct. 6, @San Francisco, at 9:37 p.m.
  • Game 2, Sunday, Oct. 7, @San Francisco, Time TBA
  • Game 3, Tuesday, Oct. 9 @Cincinnati, Time TBA
  • Game 4, Wednesday, Oct. 10, @Cincinnati, Time TBA, if necessary
  • Game 5, Thursday, Oct. 11, @Cincinnati, Time TBA, if necessary

This season only, the playoff series begin on the road.
