California group to air ads backing amendment to let foreign-born run for president

Californians will soon see cable TV ads urging them to back an amendment to let Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and other foreign-born citizens run for president. The ads start airing Monday. They come from a California-based group that wants to amend the US Constitution, which limits the presidency to people born in the US. Schwarzenegger was born in Austria but became a US citizen in 1983. Schwarzenegger has said he'd consider running for president if the Constitution allowed but he hasn't pushed for a constitutional change. Four proposed amendments are circulating in Congress, but none has advanced. Constitutional amendments require congressional approval and ratification by 38 states.
