Crane to see jobs cuts under Pentagon proposal

Indiana will gain about 22-hundred jobs at military sites statewide under the Pentagon's proposed military base closure and realignment plan. Nearly 35-hundred jobs will be added to the Defense Finance and Accounting Service at the former Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis. The center now has about three-thousand mostly civilian employees doing accounting work for the Army. The Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center in southwest Indiana will remain open, but lose nearly 700 of its four-thousand jobs. An Air National Guard station in Terre Haute will lose about 140 jobs. About 300 jobs will be added to the Air Guard base in Fort Wayne. The Newport Chemical Depot will close when the destruction of VX nerve agent there is complete.
