Iraq War veteran Paul Hackett says he won't be running for a US Senate seat from Ohio.
Hackett tells the New York Times for a story today that the same Democratic leaders who urged him to run after his sensational political debut in a House race last year have turned on him. Hackett says those leaders asked him to withdraw so Ohio Congressman Sherrod Brown could run against Republican Senator Mike Dewine.
Hackett calls this "an extremely disappointing decision," one he says has quote -- "been forced on me" -- end quote.
Hackett captured democrats' attention last summer by blasting President Bush's war policies, raising huge sums on the internet and nearly winning a special election in a Cincinnati-area conservative House districts.
