COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - The judge who has been threatened with impeachment for declining to order time behind bars for a sex offender followed a law some lawmakers now want changed.
House Speaker Jon Husted acknowledges that Judge John Connor of Franklin County Common Pleas court didn't do anything illegal but says he is guilty of using bad judgment. Husted spokeswoman Tasha Hamilton says Husted is holding Connor responsible even though the law allowed him a wide ranging of sentencing options.
Connor defended his decision today while appearing at the city's Saint Patrick's Day parade.
He says lawmakers have no business interfering in what is a question of judicial independence.
