Teen Dies In Colerain Township Car Accident

(COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, OHIO) -- A teenage girl has died following a car accident on westbound Interstate 275 in Colerain Township.

The accident occurred around 9:41 p.m. on Monday, July 1. Police say the 21-year-old driver of a 2000 Honda Civic swerved to avoid a tire tread in the road, then exited the north side of the roadway and struck several trees. The vehicle then traveled down an embankment where it overturned several times.

There were four passengers in the car at the time of the accident. Police say Tomanique Coates, 15, was extricated from the vehicle by the Colerain Township Fire Department then flown to University Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The other passengers were taken to University Hospital. One is listed in good condition, one in serious condition and one in critical condition.

Police say the only person using her seat belt was the front seat passenger. They say drugs and alcohol were not a factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office Traffic Safety Unit.
