BATAVIA, OH (FOX19) - A local prosecutor wants tougher laws for parents who leave their kids in cars.

This comes after two different local cases where young girls died in the heat after their   mothers forgot them inside cars.

Neither woman was charged under the current law.

But a propsed bill written by Clermont County's prosecutor Don White would punish any parent who leaves a child alone in a car, even if the child isn't hurt.

"A lot of people cannot find it in themselves to believe that they can forget their children, but it happens," said White. "It causes death in this country 31 times a year on the average the last 10-years."

If passed, an adult who leaves a child five years old or younger alone in a car would get two months in jail if the kid is hurt, and up to six months if the child dies.
