Multi-state search for inmates continues

DRY RIDGE, KY (FOX19) - Police have gotten lots of tips from the public on the whereabouts of three escaped inmates, but the trio is still on the run.

At least one person showed up at the Kentucky State Police post in Dry Ridge on Tuesday to give information about what he and a friend saw. Several other people have called police.

Jerry Sargent, Christopher Marshall and Billy Cockerell have all been on the run since Friday when they busted out of the Branchville Correctional Facility in Indiana.

The trio turned up in Carroll County Monday and violently robbed three brothers, beating them and tying them up, then stealing their guns, money and a truck.

This has everyone in that area talking.

One witness claims he and a friend were driving Monday evening near Grant County Park in Crittenden and they think they say Jerry Sargent, who is from Dry Ridge and has family in Independence.

The witness claims Sargent was in a small black four door car and driving so crazy, he thought it looked like he was trying to get out of dodge and quick.

"He's desperate, you don't know what he's capable of," said Justin Smith, the witness. "You don't know what he'll do to flee. You never know what he's thinking or what he's going to do, so yes, I'm definitely still scared."

The Grant County Sheriff's Office says deputies will continue to search barns and farmland, especially at night.
