Bengals release preseason schedule

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The Bengals' 2009 preseason schedule has been released, and features a Week 3 home opener against the St. Louis Rams.

It will be the first preseason meeting between the Bengals and the St. Louis Rams. The Bengals and Rams franchises have met only once previously in preseason, in the 1988 Pro Football Hall of Fame Game at Canton, Ohio. The Bengals defeated the Los Angeles Rams 14-7, opening a year that would culminate in an AFC Championship.

Specific dates and kickoff times are yet to be announced, but at present, the Bengals preseason lines up as follows:

--Week 1, at New Orleans, weekend of Aug. 13-17

--Week 2, at New England, weekend of Aug. 20-24.

--Week 3, ST. LOUIS, weekend of Aug. 27-31.

--Week 4, INDIANAPOLIS, weekend of Sept. 3-4.

The Bengals' home game against Indianapolis will mark the 17th time in the last 18 years that Cincinnati has played the regional rival Colts in preseason. Cincinnati and Indianapolis are the two closest cities in the AFC by driving distance. This will be the seventh year in a row that the Bengals and Colts have closed the preseason against one another.

The Bengals will play New Orleans in preseason for the third straight year, but the opener on the road will be Cincinnati's first preseason game at New Orleans since 1989. Cincinnati's Week 2 game against the Patriots will be the Bengals' first preseason visit to New England since 1990. The Bengals hosted New England in preseason in 2004 and 2005.
