Local tradition marks Good Friday

(CINCINNATI)FOX19 - It's a 150 year old Cincinnati Good Friday tradition of the devoted ,praying and climbing the steps at the Church of the Immaculata.

This year hundreds of Catholics will hear the restored bells at the church as they make their way up the steps.

And the new steps and the restored bells were dedicated yesterday by the Bishop and city officials.

Arch-Bishop Daniel Pilarcyk prepared the way, blessing the 85-newly repaired steps.

"We gather here to bless these newly renovated steps," said the Arch-Bishop. For generations faithful have climb these steps offered their struggles and prays to the lord."

The improvements were made possible by the city of Cincinnati's Infrastructure Improvement Project.

The 149 year old bell tower was silenced last year because of fragile equipment.  This year they are loud and clear.
