Deputy fired over his poor response to Caylee tip

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - A Florida sheriff's deputy has been fired because of his unsatisfactory response to a meter reader's repeated phone calls to check out woods where a missing toddler's body eventually was found.

Orange County Sheriff's Deputy Richard Cain was notified of his termination Friday. An internal investigation found his response to Orlando meter reader Roy Kronk's phone calls in August was negligent.

Kronk eventually went back to the woods and found Caylee Anthony's remains in December. Cain told investigators he found trash bags filled with leaves and sticks at the site in August.

When asked why he didn't have Kronk lead him through the site, Cain acknowledged that would have been reasonable.

Caylee's mother, Casey Anthony, has been charged with murder.
