MASON, OH (FOX19) - Kings Island officially opens to the public this weekend with something new and exciting.
The newest roller coaster, Diamondback, makes its debut this weekend.
An auction was held to determine who would be the first to ride the new, $22 million coaster, with proceeds benefiting A Kid Again. The auction raised $102,000.
Blackhawk Network had the top bid - $5,000 for one seat. The California based company plans to donate its winning bid to A Kid Again so a family member can ride.
Allan Hague from Yantis, Texas placed the top individual bid - $3,100 for one seat. Hague also had successful bids on two other seats at $800 each.
The park received bids from individuals from 11 different states during the online auction with an average bid of $398 per seat.
The first official rides will take place Saturday, April 18 beginning at 8 a.m. Kings Island opens to the public at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
Diamondback is the tallest and fastest roller coaster to ever strike Kings Island. The ride stands 230 feet at its highest point with a first drop of 215 feet at a 74-degree angle. Riders will snake their way around 5,282 feet of track at speeds up to 80 miles per hour.
