NKU spends $10,000 to rid dorm of bed bugs

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. (AP) - Northern Kentucky University has spent $10,000 in an attempt to rid a dormitory of bed bugs.

Peter Trentacoste, director of university housing, says the source of the bed bugs in Callahan Hall was not known. But Trentacoste said in a report in the Kentucky Enquirer on Friday that they likely came from an outside source such as a hotel room.

The floor where the bed bugs were found was given a double treatment with both a chemical and high heat to kill the critters.

Trentacoste says about a dozen students were displaced for about 48 hours while the floor was treated.
