Why are gun and ammo sales up?

SHARONVILLE, OH (FOX19) - According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, in the first three months of this year, gun and ammunition sales have increased 27 percent compared to the same time last year.

Jeff Mann of Target World in Sharonville says the number of people applying for conceal and carry classes is up at least 40 percent.

'"We're running carry and conceal classes three times a week," said Mann. "The basic class on Saturday is booked out until the middle of June already."

Man started seeing an upturn in business last September.

And handguns aren't the only things flying off the shelves. Ammunition like 380 calibers are almost impossible to find. The buzz that the Obama administration may tax ammunition, and mandate serialized bullet casings is forcing some gun owners to stock up on bullets like smokers before the cigarette tax.

But Mann isn't surprised.

'"We've seen this cycle repeat before, downturn in the economy people worried about protection, or administration unfriendly to second amendment worried about that too," he said.

At Target World, customers are coming from as far away as Columbus and West Virginia to calm their concerns.
