GEORGETOWN, Ohio (AP) - The former clerk-treasurer of the southern Ohio village of Sardinia has been indicted on felony counts of theft in office, tampering with records and identity theft.
Brown County Prosecutor Jessica Little says 49-year-old Julie Shannon appeared in court in Georgetown on Thursday night and was released on her own recognizance pending arraignment.
Little said Friday that an investigation by State Auditor Mary Taylor's office showed that Shannon stole more than $10,000. A grand jury indictment alleges that she took cash from utility deposits, wrote unauthorized payroll checks to herself and established a bogus utility account in her ex-husband's name.
A published home phone listing for Shannon could not be found in Sardinia.
