BATAVIA, Ohio (AP) - Ohio authorities say a man died while trying to recover a boat that had drifted into a lake at a state park.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol says 50-year-old Phillip Parker of Goshen died Monday afternoon in Harsha Lake in southwest Ohio's East Fork State Park.
Sgt. Kevin Long at the patrol's Batavia post said Tuesday that Parker was helping to launch a boat into the water when high winds blew the vessel away from the boat ramp. Parker went into the water and tried to get into the boat, but it capsized.
Long says Parker tried to swim to safety but went under water and could not be revived when he was pulled ashore.
The Ohio Division of Watercraft is investigating, and an autopsy has been ordered.
