CINCINNATI (AP) - A man accused of strangling a Cincinnati teenager in March and trying to burn her body has been ruled mentally competent to stand trial.

Anthony Kirkland, 40, has pleaded not guilty to a charge of aggravated murder in the death of 13-year-old Esme Kenney, whose body was found in woods near her home.

The competency finding on Monday clears the way for Kirkland to go on trial Nov. 2 in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court. Prosecutors have said they will seek the death penalty.

Kirkland is in jail under $5.3 million bond. He also is charged in the 2006 deaths of a woman and a teenager. Prosecutors plan to seek another indictment in the death of a woman whose charred bones were found about 10 months ago but only recently identified.
