SHANDON, OH (FOX19) - Remember the holiday train display In front of Cincinnati's Union Terminal?

That same train of lights is now going up in a local front yard.

The display lit up Union Terminal for 20 years, but now it will light up a front yard in Shandon, Ohio, near Harrison.

"Had steam trains around my Christmas tree when I was growing up, so I always liked trains and the good Lord was passing out brains and I thought he said trains, that's all I can tell you," said Don Guill, who's building the train.

The Union Terminal staff took down the display five years ago, saying it was too expensive to maintain, and nearly sent it to scrap. But that's when Guill thought it might make a finishing touch to his backyard railyard.

"I took them to my shop and completely restored them. Put all new wiring on them, all new lights and put LED light bulbs in it now," said Guill.

Guill worked in steel fabrication for 34 years and is now semi-retired. He turned his 11 acre property into a mile and a half of track. He builds trains for kids to ride, and even bigger kids to blow off some steam.

"We're keeping a piece of history, you know?" he said.
