AVONDALE, OH (FOX19) - Cincinnati Police responded to a call in Avondale only to have a suspect open fire on them.

It started just after 10 p.m. Monday night at the corner of Forest and Vine. That's where a woman told police that a man shot at her. When police arrived at the location, they found a man matching the description the woman gave.

Two officers pulled up in their cruisers and then got out and approached the suspect. That's when the suspect fired five to six shots, and officers found themselves dodging gunfire.

The suspect took off running, and the officers did not return fire, but instead called for backup and a K-9 unit.

They found a coat and a hat they believe belong to the suspect, but he has not yet been arrested.

He is described as a black male, 5-foot-7 and in his late teens or early 20's.

The officers were not injured in the incident and their cruisers were not hit, either.
