FLORENCE, KY (FOX19) - This weekend, family and friends will say good-bye to a Tri-State sailor murdered on Memorial Day.
The Navy reservist had just returned home from a six-month tour of duty in Iraq in October.
Her body was found on Memorial Day in her Bethel home. Police say she was shot in her bed by her husband, Kurt Russell. He then turned the gun on himself and ended his life while sitting in a living room chair.
Debbie had been married for six years. Four years ago, she joined the Navy.
The 44-year-old was a graduate of Boone County High School and grew up in Covington and Florence.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home in Florence. The funeral will be here at 10 a.m. Saturday. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Taylor Mill.
