UPDATE: Charges filed in crash that killed former Edgewood teacher

WAYNE TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - 

UPDATE: Charges have been filed against a teenager who was involved in a crash that killed a former Edgewood teacher.

The teen was issued a summons to appear in juvenile court for vehicular manslaughter, a first degree misdemeanor. Maximum sentence is 180 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.

In addition, the teen was also cited for failure to yield at a stop sign, a minor misdemeanor with a maximum fine of $150.

The crash earlier this month in Wayne Township killed Thomas Highley, 58.


PREVIOUSLY:

A man has died after a two car accident in Wayne Township.

It happened at the intersection of Cotton Run Road and Oxford-Middletown Road just after 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Police say preliminary investigation reveals that a 17-year-old driver was traveling southbound on Cotton Run Road when she hit a Hyundai traveling eastbound on Oxford-Middletown Road driven by Thomas Highley, 58.

Police say Highley traveled off the right side of the road, struck a concrete post and flipped his car onto its top. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.

Highley was a retired teacher at Edgewood High School, teaching for 30 years.
