Con-artists and thieves will likely join holiday shoppers this weekend.
Springdale Detective James Grindle walks Tri-County Mall in plainclothes, looking for suspicious activity. The pilfering of plastic tops the list of crimes.Instead of signing a credit card, Grindle recommends writing "ask for two forms of identification" on the back.
"It's a red flag for store owners," he explained.
Identity thieves often follow potential victims from store to store.
"(If) the same group of people are in the same places you are, there's probably a problem with that."
Report anyone suspicious to security guards, and get an escort to the parking lot. Also, try to shop with a companion. Besides safety, a second set of eyes can prove valuable in the decision-making process.
"It's nice to get other people's opinions before your big purchase," Jennifer McGillis.
