Cincinnati Zoo attendance up 40 percent

CINCINNATI (AP) - It's shaping up as a banner year at the Cincinnati Zoo.

Officials say more than 370,000 people visited the zoo during the first four months of 2009, up nearly 40 percent from last year. Attendance set an all-time, one-day record for May on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend with 13,000 visitors.

The Cincinnati Zoo was founded in 1873 and opened its doors in 1875, making it the second oldest Zoo in the United States. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1987.
