FORT WRIGHT, KY (FOX19) - Investigators are trying to figure out what caused a fire at a hotel in Fort Wright.

Flames broke out at the Days Inn on Dixie Highway shortly before 9 p.m. Tuesday night.

It started in two vacant rooms on the third floor, but firefighters don't consider it suspicious. Most of the damage was contained to those two rooms and a small portion of the roof. Fire chief Steve Schewe says the fire started after a short in an air conditioning unit sparked the fire.

There were 31 rooms being used at the hotel when the fire broke out, but none of the occupants were hurt. The hotel did not have sprinklers, but fire alarms in every room alerted the hotel guests. They were all moved to a hotel next door for the night.

Hotel officials believe it will be a short time before they can reopen the bottom floors.
