MACKINAW TOWNSHIP, MI (FOX19) - A Middletown man is dead after drowning in Lake Huron in Michigan.

The Cheboygan County Sheriff's Department responded to Lake Huron around 4 p.m. Saturday on a report of a person missing in the lake. Deputies learned three people were on the lake, about 100 feet off the shore when the raft they were in capsized in heavy winds. Two of the subjects swam back to land, but the third, Randy William Loper, 35, of Middletown, drowned in the water. His body was found within 20 feet of the shore.

Police say the spot where the raft capsized was in about 12 to 15 feet of water. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor, but police say Loper was not wearing a life jacket.
