WALNUT HILLS, OH (FOX19) -  Neighbors say they're in mourning after a teenager died from a weekend shooting in Walnut Hills.

Police responded to the 700 block of Oak Street Saturday night to a report of two teenagers with gunshot wounds inside an abandoned apartment. The 16-year-old died from his injuries on Monday at University Hospital. Another teen, age 15, was taken to Children's Hospital. He was treated and released.

"He was still breathing and fighting and holding on, but unfortunately he didn't come through," say neighbor Shelley Rogers. She says she found the two teens shortly after the shooting.

Other neighbors remember the 16 -year-old as a good kid who had a hard life. Many people in the neighborhood put flowers, stuffed animals and candles on the front stoop of the apartment as a memorial.

"We're all like a family out here, and it's kind of sad that he was like a family member to all of us, and he's gone," says Daminica King. She also says she knows both teens.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, but police say they do not suspect a homicide.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Criminal Investigation Section at 352-3542 or Crimestoppers at 352-3040.
