Police looking for Dayton escapee

DAYTON, OH (FOX19) - The Dayton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is seeking the public's assistance in locating Cordis Delane Berard, 25, of Richmond, Ind., after he escaped law enforcement custody during a traffic stop in Harrison Township early Wednesday morning.

Berard, a black male, is 5 foot 8 inches tall and weighs 162 pounds. He has a goatee and was last seen wearing long, tan baggy shorts, a pullover shirt with broad brown stripes, a black baseball cap and handcuffs.

A trooper stopped Berard for multiple marked lanes violations and driving the wrong way around 2:30 a.m..After performing field sobriety tests, troopers discovered Berard had an active felony warrant out of Wayne County, Ind. The trooper placed Berard under arrest and handcuffed him. The trooper searched the suspect and confiscated a small amount of narcotics from the suspect's left pocket. As the trooper went to place the contraband on the patrol cruiser, Berard fled on foot and into a residential neighborhood.
