CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Hamilton County prosecutor Joe Deters has announced the indictment of Mark Pickens for a triple murder in Over the Rhine.
A Hamilton County grand jury indicted Pickens on one count of rape, three counts of aggravated murder and two counts of having weapons under disability. He faces the death penalty if convicted.
Prosecutors believe Pickens shot and killed Noelle Washington, 19, her son Anthony Jones, 9 months, and Sharailyn Wright, 3, in Washington's apartment in June.
Police arrested Pickens soon after the murders and called him a person of interest in the case. Pickens was charged with shooting Washington's boyfriend in March, and court documents show Washington had accused him of rape just one day before she was killed.
Deters said the rape report was related to the murders. He said Washington feared for her life and was planning to move out of the apartment.
"This gross act of senseless violence against this young woman and those two babies demands society's ultimate penalty," said Deters. "These weren't stray gunshots that killed the three. All were purposely executed."
