COVINGTON, Ky. (AP) - A northern Kentucky judge has told attorneys in a teacher sex case to adhere to rules of professional conduct.

Nicole Howell's attorney, Eric Deters, canceled a news conference he had scheduled for Thursday at which he was expected to talk about the case against his 26-year-old client.

Howell's trial is scheduled for Oct. 13 on a first-degree sexual abuse charge.

Howell - of Florence - is accused of having sex with a 16-year-old football player. She denies the claim and is free on bond.

The former Dayton High School teacher was fired after criminal charges were filed against her.

She appeared with Deters on FOX's 'The O'Reilly Factor' on Monday evening, saying that the teen took her cell phone while it was unattended and sent her a text message.

Kenton County Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Stefanie Kastner had filed a motion for a gag order in the case, but the court stopped short of issuing one.
