Business owner comes off roof

FAIRFIELD, OH (FOX19) - After two weeks of living on the roof, a Fairfield small business owner has come down.

Al Smith was living on the roof of Dalton Carpets as a protest against government bailouts. However, Smith became ill this week and his doctor advised him to come down.

Smith says he feels like he got his message out because his story got national attention.

Smith had to close three of his stores and lay off 30 people. When he tried to get a loan to keep his two remaining stores open, he couldn't get one.

Smith says the nation's banks received bail out money and they are not using the money to help out small business owners like himself, and that's why he stayed on the roof.
