Soldier in jail after fighting with officers

By Eileen Talkie- email

CINCINNATI (WXIX)- A soldier in town for Riverfest was arraigned on assault charges on Saturday after a fight at a local bar.

Court records say U.S. Army Corporal Joshua Schichtl was intoxicated and asked to leave Cadillac Ranch on Sixth Street around 2:15 a.m. Saturday. That's when police say the 26 year old from Conway, Arkansas pushed an officer and then tried to punch him in the face.

Sergeant Matthew Vogeler used his taser to get Schichtl under control.

Schichtl is one of four recently injured servicemembers brought to Cincinnati for the weekend as honorees for the USO Riverfest Gala.

That event, held in conjuction with the annual Labor Day weekend fireworks show over the Ohio River, raises money to help servicemembers and their families, including those recuperating at military hospitals.

Schichtl's bond was set at $100,000.
