School bus accident in Switzerland Co.

VEVAY, IN (FOX19) - A school bus accident in Switzerland County sent six students to the hospital.

It happened Tuesday morning around 8 a.m. on State Route 156 near Tapps Ridge Road, just outside of Vevay.

The Switzerland County Sheriff's Office says a pick up truck driven by Ted Max Frost, 63, of Cambridge City, Ind., was traveling east on SR 156 when he observed a vehicle driven by Carianne Wilhoite, 35, of Vevay, stopped in the same lane of traffic and turning left on Tapps Ridge Road. Frost was not able to stop in time to avoid rear-ending Wilhoite, so he swerved to the left and into the lane of the school bus, driven by Jerry Monjar, 46, of Patriot, Ind. Frost struck the rear of Wilhoit's vehicle before hitting the bus.

Six of the children on the bus were taken to Kings Daughters' hospital for treatment of minor injuries. They have all been released. It's unclear how many children were on the bus or where the bus was going.

Wilhoite and Frost were also both taken to the hospital. Wilhoite was treated an released for minor back pain, and Frost had to undergo surgery. He is expected to be OK.

Crews were on the scene for several hours cleaning up the wreck.
