OVER THE RHINE, OH (FOX19) - A woman who is nine months pregnant was shot four times in her car in Over-the-Rhine.

It happened early Monday morning on Peete St.

Police say the baby's father was also in the car and not injured. He says he can't recall what happened, but police say he knew the suspects.

Ebony Mackey, 31, was just a few days away from giving birth when the shooting happened.

"When a mother and child are shot it raises the level to our highest alert," said Julie Wilson with the Hamilton County Prosecutor's Office.

Mackey and her boyfriend, Antonio Chapman, were visiting some friends on Peete St. when the shooting occurred.

"The shots were fired and according to Mackey, Chapman knows and won't tell what he knows," said Lt. Mark Briede with Cincinnati Police.

Even though Mackey was shot four times - twice in the stomach - an emergency C-section was performed at University Hospital. The infant was taken to Children's Hospital, and both mother and son are doing OK.

Police continue to investigate the crime, and won't confirm if it was an orchestrated hit.

"We don't know what the fact are, what are the odds, at that time of night, a coincidence? Not ruling anything out at this point," said Briede.
