SPRINGDALE, OH (FOX19) - Two men were arrested Tuesday morning after a chase and a crash. One of the suspects pointed a gun at police and had to be tased before he was taken into custody.

It all started around 2 a.m. Tuesday morning when a Springdale police officer stopped a vehicle on Northland at Springfield Pike for suspicion of OVI. Police say the driver, Eddie Phillips, 24, was questioned and appeared to be intoxicated or under the influence of drugs.

As officers were preparing to test Phillips for OVI, he and a passenger fled the scene in the vehicle. Officers initiated a pursuit and just west of Hanover, Phillips - who was traveling at a high rate of speed - struck a number of trees, flipped, lost a wheel, then struck a parked vehicle and stopped.

Officers ordered both Phillips and his passenger, Troy Julius, 24, to exit the vehicle. Phillips began to exit the driver's door and displayed a weapon. He was ordered to drop the weapon, but continued to show it. When Phillips pointed the weapon in the direction of the officers, one of the officers fired a round, striking the driver's side door. Phillips then dropped the weapon, but continued to disregard officers' orders to exit the vehicle.

Julius exited the vehicle and was taken into custody. When Forest Park officers arrived on the scene, they fired several pepper ball rounds toward the vehicle. Phillips began to walk away from the vehicle, but still refused to be arrested, so he was tased by a Forest Park officer and taken into custody.

Both men were taken to Mercy South hospital for minor injuries suffered as a result of the crash. They have been released to Springdale Police.

Charges are pending. Police recovered two handguns from the vehicle.
