ELMWOOD PLACE, OH (FOX19) - A Hamilton County man is behind bars, accused of taking money from a local police department.

John Thomas Prentis, 45, is charged with two counts of tampering with evidence, breaking and entering, theft and vandalism.

According to court documents, Prentis entered the Elmwood Place Police Department via a back door on Monday night, then forced entry in the chief of police's office. He got away with about $1100 that was being used for the Elmwood Place Drug Task Force or held as evidence.

Police say he had prior knowledge of the location and storage of the money because he had been an active confidential informant for the drug task force.

Prentis also faces a drug possession charge after he was found with cocaine.
