CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The Hamilton County Board of Elections is investigating what appears to be fraudulent applications for early voting ballots.
Election officials say about 40 absentee ballots contain the name of a registered voter and the voter's correct address, but not the correct birth date, social security partial number or valid signature.
Those voters whose names have been used have been contacted by the Board of Elections staff, and said they did not apply for a ballot, nor authorize anyone to do so on their behalf.
"It appears that someone may be engaged in a deliberate effort to forge names and violate Ohio election law," said Alex Triantafilou, Chairman of the Board of Elections. "Out staff has recommended and we agree it is time to refer the documents to the Hamilton County Prosecutor for further investigation.
"Our bipartisan Board is committed to insuring fair elections unimpaired by those who would seek to engage in election falsification," Triantafilou added.
