LONDON, KY (FOX19) - A pilot was forced to make an emergency landing on KY 80 Wednesday afternoon.

A short time after 3:00pm, Kentucky State Troopers received a call that an aircraft may have crashed on near KY 80 West in Laurel County. When an off-duty patrol officer arrived on the scene, a yellow 1941 Stinson had not crashed but made an emergency landing in the grassy median.

The pilot, 62-year-old Wayne Alsworth from Alaska was on his way from Mason, City Iowa to Boone, North Carolina. Alsworth says that he had a fuel starvation from a gauge malfunction, resulting in the emergency landing. The pilot was the only person on the plane and was not hurt in the incident.

Fuel was brought to the scene and the pilot was able to take off from the highway. Traffic was stopped for 20 minutes in both lanes.
